Every year I warn Sean that we are going for dinner on valentines weekend. Now even though he can be romantic, he would much rather stay at home and hide from the madness that is the pink ballooned and red rosed holiday of St Valentine. Not one to give up, I had kept the weekend free… you know just incase!  Naturally when the email from Nancy and David came through in January I assumed there had been a typo and they had meant February 2014 not February that was approaching in a few weeks!! After a quick Skype call we were smitten kittens {hehe speaking of which, the lads cats wanted in on the Skype call too, it was very funny}  and Valentines dinner had been put off. There was no way we were missing out on the chance of meeting this fabulous couple. I was just about to say some things are meant to be. But I really guess they are. I used to walk past the Stephens Green Hibernian Club almost every day when I lived in Dublin. Every day I would think “Some day I will see what hides behind your doors” this year I did and I sure wasn’t disappointed!!!

Nancy and David met at a party in London back in ’08 and have been inseparable ever since. To watch the way they look at each other and to listen to how one speaks of the other, it feels like these two souls have been together for always. Finding each other in every life time. Both are very ambitious individuals, both Architects, describing each other as calm and passionate, both hilariously funny in their own right { remembers the cat conversation at the end of the night!!} We found them both to be inspirational. They worked hard to get to where they are and hold an amazing out look on life. We heart Nancy and David very much!

We {and by we I mean I} spent most of the morning chatting to Nancy as she donned her own make up { I like her style} it was random to find we had a lot in common and had even been to the same college! It was a busy room with Nancy’s adorable parents floating in and out of the room and the bubbly Emily’s {yes the bridesmaids had the same name} popping in and out. It was all so relaxed, in fact too relaxed as I suddenly realised I had not seen Sean in  quiet some time and quietly panicked that I had not done any work. Which I quickly forgot about when I commented on the beautiful shrug which Nancy got in a vintage store, the name of which escapes me, to which her Dad said “As Nancy walked into the store Maggie Gyllenhaal walked out.” I was like OOOOOH Really! Star struck by a story.. how sad I know! Sean came back some time laughter, grinning from ear to ear. He was in love with the building and while “exploring” he had made new friends with the wedding guests!

I could of stayed chatting all day but there was a very stunning little church to get to. Nancy took off in her brothers car, which was too cute for words. Sean myself and Nancys Dad took a stroll through St Stephens Green Park. Which was alive with people going on about their daily lives. It struck me as a  such a happy moment. Off we were going to capture the story of a couples most treasured day and here we were surround by couples kissing and holding hands, families going for a stroll,people eating lunch,  people on phones saying ” love you, see you when I get home.” Hundreds of people, all in different places in their own worlds, but all happy and in love. It was very sweet and made my heart soar!

The church was out of this world. I was almost blinded, there was just so much to take in. The emotion of the wedding, lots of tears and laughter, the music, the details in the church. It was way too much. I was dizzy from it all. For any one that has not been to Newman University church I am telling you to GO NOW! David and Nancy wanted us to capture their day as well as Dublin and its architecture. Which is a bit different from our beaches and fields yet was so enjoyable. Dublin has some really beautiful buildings if you just take the time to look!  We went up to the famous Guinness Store house for some quick pictures before dinner, like it would have been rude not to. It was hilarious, waiting for buses and people to pass. Young ones asking ” Did they just get married, like why are they here, this is a weird place to get pictures done, like is he really a photographer?” The Italian lady screeching ” BELLA, BELLA” while munching on her pear. I think she just wanted to be in the photos though! It was an enjoyable challenge.

Then it was time to battle the traffic of Dublin city centre to get back to The Gentlemen’s Club to party the night away in incredible style….. and  enjoy some giant cornish pasties!

Nancy and David you are an incredible couple, a million Thank Yous for allowing us to be part of your day. We wish you nothing but love and laughter for always.

A theme on the lovebird session was Ian and his super-heros and this was the day that this superhero got his leading lady. As soon as Maria donned her dress, {not that the bathrobe wasn’t spectacular} she was mesmerising! With those big brown eyes and and warmest of smiles I knew that Ian would be weak at the knees when he watched her walk up the isle. Judging by the look on his face below I wasn’t wrong. Father Chris, thee coolest priest going lead the nuptials in Bansha Church, which were most entertaining and had everyone rolling around on the pews with laughter. Telling us how this couple had probably met in his diocese in the wonderful establishment of d’icon!

While Maria and Ian were busy being congratulated by their existing guests,  we nabbed the bridesmaids and the merry men for a photo op. I’m sure that I was expecting Nadia {who you may recognise for her extraordinary chicken cooking abilities on channel 4′s Come Dine With Me} to be up for anything, however, I wasn’t expecting her to set the bar for striking a pose! I will never be able to look at Tigers ever the same again! That certain pose and Grrrrrrr nose was repeated many times through the photo shoot and through out the evening! Nadia you trend setter!

You remember the wee beams of sunlight that we were so pleased to see? Well the sunshine clearly worn out from the love and the laughter decided to go for a nap just as we got back to Kilshane. Maria being the calm cool and collected lady she is said ” I don’t care I want my field and lake picture!” Wellies were donned and off we went rain mud and all! This bride certainly ticked all the Poppy boxes. Well I suppose she was used to us after we soaked her on both Lovebird Sessions. I stress it was not on purpose!

Oh My Gosh! I totally forgot! When we were on the shoot we had said to stay put while we drove up the side of the hil in our trusty Chucky ( an old Defender) to check out just how muddy it really was. When we got back there was no sign of the the car with Maria and Ian. PANIC “If they have gone into the house we will never get them back oooout!” When we got to the house we were greeted by the lovely Ruth who was like ” Ammm What have you done with the couple?” I was like ” Soooo they are not here then….. Okay!” I told Ruth of our plan and she laughed that couples could end up any where on the grounds when we were shooting a wedding. Any way we found them … it was a bit of a Benny Hill moment.

Off up the hill we went and the shoot began rain, mud and lake bound snuggles and all.

When we got back to reception Maria had the coolest table plan EVER. I am still not too sure how it worked but it was very interactive and had rubber duckies. Who doesnt love rubber duckies right… Go on you know you want to sing along!!! Speaking of which, there was a surprise singing chef which was enjoyed by all! I think I would have cleared the place if he had come over to me with that microphone!

Maria and Ian you two are star bars, epic fun and we miss ye. Kilkee date soon. HUGS & LOVE ALWAYS.

Now Caitriona had told us that Fintan was a totally easy going laid back chap… and she wasn’t joking!! The day before, Sean and myself did the “drive through” of the day. As we passed The Cottage {the couples stunning.. urm cottage} we spied Fintan, he looked like any other person out on a sunny afternoon tending to the garden, not seeming worried about the impending wedding. I can tell you now, Sean was not anywhere near a garden the day before our wedding. The morning of the wedding, we said we would pop in and check on the garden and the lads. We were slightly worried when there was no answer. Even more worried when a sleepy looking Fintan answered the door and didn’t have a clue what we were on about! I should point out that this was one Groom we did not get to meet before the wedding. Once the awkward silence passed it was actually quiet funny. We agreed that we would come back once he had woken up and had a bite to eat. Whoopsies!

Through the laughter it was off to Caitrionas family home which in comparison to what we just left was HOPPING!!!!! To say everything was under control was an understatement. Hair and make up were well under way. The breakfast smelt heavenly and the tea was most definitely on. I think it was because we knew this bride a bit more than the rest we were much more relaxed. There are a sequence of photos that I debated posting. As you can tell this brides smile and mischievous sense of humor is contagious!  Unfortunately for you lot you will never now see them. Caitriona knows what I am talking about. Pink and Hilarious. I though Sean was going to die of mortification and then of suffocation he was laughing so much!!! Anyway, once we had calmed ourselves it was off to the church. You know how I hate people being late {yes i see you all, I do sit in the back of the church} I hate even more people  who sneak out during the ceremony. So when three or four lads headed out. I rolled eyes ALLOT! I had to roll them back down into place as when we left the church, every single last car had been adorned with ribbons. It was a spectacular sight. Lads I wronged ye and I apologise!

Everyone who knows Caitriona and Fintan know that they are a very loved up and friendly couple. Which was reflected in wonderfully in their wedding. When the pair made their grand entrance into the dining room, the room lit up. This time it wasn’t Caitrionas smile, but the from the love of family and friends. The room was buzzing with happiness. It was really incredible to witness.

We are so incredibly glad that he did, other wise we would never have met them 52 days before their wedding and would not have fallen for how hopelessly crazy these two are for each other. It was our first wedding in Mullingar and first time in Westmeath and we would certainly love to go back (hint hint).  We popped into see Lorna and Kevin the night before the big day for cups of tea and biscuits. Lorna’s parents house was a buzz with energy and excitement. Even with all the last minute preparations everyone made us feel so welcome, it was like we were family just popping into say “Hi.” Kevin was cool as a cucumber {something that Lorna Loves about him and I can see why} I joked and said if he was any more relaxed he may keel over. All this gentle giant wanted to do was put a ring on Lorna’s finger and to say “I Do” so in fairness he didn’t have much to fret about.

The day itself flew by. It was a typical winter day. Sunny. Rainy. Freezing. Dull and back to sunny. I expected snow at one point! Lorna and Kevin hardly seemed to notice though. There was enough love from family and friends to keep this couple warm for a lifetime. After a moving ceremony we headed off to the lakes. {That is after a brief stop to the pub. Sean was all like “You didn’t bring me to a pub to pull the first pint of married life!!!”}  Lorna and Kevin cuddled and whispered sweet nothings to each other, much to the amusement of some kids that were wrapped up to the ninths after coming in from canoeing. One young man asked “Did they just get married” Me. “Yes” The young man pondered this for a second and suggested it would be cool for them to go out on one of the canoes. The adult part of my brain answered ” I don’t think she can in that dress” While the other side of my brain was giving Sean the ” Oh come on, it would be totally EPIC” eyes. You can imagine his answer and he was probably right. So we headed off to the safety of the woods, which were nice and dry in comparison.

We always have wellies boots in the car. You know just in case of muddy situations. So when we offered Lorna the boots and she took them we thought nothing of it. Everyone else thought it was hilarious and got the phones and cameras out. It turns out that this fun loving gal, wouldn’t always {in fact never} get into muddy situations, thankfully her love of Poppiesandme got her through! Round of applause please! We think it was well worth it!

With the light falling quickly we headed back to the Mullingar Park Hotel to let our couple warm up and mingle with family and friends. As we left the couple later to dance the night away. I felt like we had been part of something magical with this couple. The love the have for each other, their family and friends, they way they look at life and the way they live it. It’s really something very unique and contagious.

Lorna & Kevin, we shall definitely be calling in for tea when we are next in the neighbour hood! Thank you so much for asking us to be part of you day.

Poppy Love

“The moment we met Sean and Kate we knew they were the right people to
hire for our wedding photography. Like most couples we really wanted special
photographs and memories of our big day and we are just thrilled with the

it so easy while Kate was a constant source of reassurance during the day.
They put so much effort into their work, with great attention to detail and they
even traveled up to Mullingar the night before the wedding to scout for good
locations. Highly professional, creative and good fun they make a great team and
we really couldn’t recommend Poppies and Me highly enough”

Lorna and Kevin

Jess was introduced to us through one of our friends Annie. From the very first email we were in love with Jess { and I swear it has nothing to do with the fact that Jess loves when it snows as much as I do} . A happy go lucky American who was spending her summer studying and working in Germany. We were in contact mostly via email and never quite got to Skype due to poor dial up and a really bad traffic jam which Jess described in wonderfully colorful Irish language. I will let you imagine what was said. Although we would all love the chance to spend a summer in Europe, it was bitter sweet for Jess who was on a daily countdown until she was reunited with the cheeky Peter. Who was ALL the way over in Australia. I used to love how the emails from Jess would be signed off with “only another 34 days… only another 19 days!” I’d say Peter was smothered in cuddles when the two were finally reunited.

Since Jess is American and Peter is Australian i had to find out what brought them to Ireland to tie the knot. Jess had spent four months in Derry a few years previous couching and playing “soccer.” {seriously could this girl be any cooler?} Sadly at the time she never got the chance to go exploring, so on this trip back both Jess and Peter were super excited to be coming to the wilds of West Clare to tie the knot in a very intimate ceremony in Newmans Castle. Its was very magical surrounded by family and friends they literally tied the knot under the watchful eye of Dara.

We have said to Jess & Peter that we are going to copy their wedding for our five year anniversary… on the condition that they and Annie join us other wise it wouldn’t be the same. For real we arent joking!!!

It was such a brilliant day. After the ceremony everyone headed to the famous O’Loughlin’s Pub for some “light refreshments.” I say famous because the walls are filled with signed photos of loads and loads of famous people who have had the lols in the bar over the years. I can only hope that Jess and Peter have added their photo to the wall of fame. Once watered we took a spin up the coast to capture as much as possible of the vast and magical country side. There were lots of references to Americas Next Top Model and Vogue poses, that raised more that a belly laugh! As the sun began to fall in the sky we headed back to Vaughans Bar in Kilfenora. A tiny village with a mighty heart. After dinner was over, it was time to move the furniture and roll back the rugs and let the dancing commence. This is what we loved. Everyone was giving a céilí lesson after dinner, given the chance to practice the steps and then the barn opened up. This intimate party of twenty or so grew as the locals joined in and danced their socks off into the wee hours of the morning. That is after all what a wedding is all about the sharing in the celebration of the couple. And folks if you want a proper old knees up there is no where better in the world to do it than our beautiful Irish isle.

Jess & Peter, thank you for being so much fun and for being so awesome! We hope that you will always be totally madly in love and that you will never have to spend a summer apart again.

Although it looks sunny and warm, checkout Kevin’s niece and nephew all wrapped up in warm jackets hats and scarf. It was freezing. So when we rocked up to Kevin on the morning of the wedding for a bit of breakfast {only joking} we laughed when he said himself and the lads were still going to take a dip. Fair play to them. I watched on in a fit of laughter as the boys headed straight for the waves of the Atlantic! When Sean and myself raced back to the car and blasted on the heating, only then did I hope the lads would be okay in a few hours time and had not suffered any major form of hypothermia!

This was our first wedding in the Red Cliff Lodge and I can only give it a thumbs up! It was stunning, great location, it was intimate and had wonderful staff.  It was just as Kevin and Susan had promised it would be. I could see why they chose it. The cottages where the ladies got ready were huge and WARM! See us girls are clever, no jumping into the freezing sea for these ladies! Quite rightly they sat and were pampered by Caroline and Louise. It was one of those calm relaxed mornings. Susan had everything under control acting as cool as a cucumber. The only thing giving her away was that huge beautiful smile of hers any time some one mentioned Kevin! Susan your eyes literally sparkled brighter than the stars when some one mentioned Kevins name! I can only assume that was due to the impending marriage to your soul mate and not the impending All Ireland finals!!!!!  There was some major banter all day about that, which in itself could be a whole other blog post!!

Susan was looking fabulous and was ready ahead of time so we decided that we should head over to the lads. Well that and we were getting well too comfy with Susans mum taking us under wing care offering us ample cups of tea and many many beautiful sandwiches.  We found the lads not suffering from any form of hypothermia and reading the papers { its always all about “the Game”} in the local pub. For grown lads that just braved the elements they got an awful fit of the giggles when it came to showing us their socks!

Laughter and mischief was definitely in the air on this day in September.  So when the priest made  a wee faux pas when introducing husband and wife the church erupted with a fit of the giggles. I suspect much to the delight of the priest, who I have to say kept us entertained the whole way through the ceremony. I do love when a ceremony is interactive and entertaining it keeps everyone on their toes!

After the church the laughter and what we should really call messing at this point continued on Quilty pier and a beautiful secluded beach we found a few days earlier.

Susan and Kevin, Thank you so so much for allowing us to be part of your magical wedding. We enjoyed every moment of it. Promise us that you will never stop laughing and smiling!!!

It started what seems like years ago now that Elaine called over to our house one night for a cuppa. I adore Elaine. She is super creative, glows with positivity and never fails to make me giggle. Plus she has an amazing coat collection and I am all about the coats! {its all about the chairs for Elaine… but that’s another story} ……AND turns out that we also have a shared love of polished concrete. Who knew!

Elaine and Kens day was all smiles and laughter the whole day long. Their priest was hilarballs! One of my many favorite memories of the day was when he asked Ken about how he met the wonderful Elaine. If Ken had been day dreaming during this part of the ceremony (about his wife to be obviously) well he was certainly paying attention now, much the to amusement of the congregation! Poor Ken bashfully and diplomatically answered that they had met in The Queens Hotel. That would be The Queens nightclub in Ennis to the rest of us!

Elaine and Kens wedding was a incredible from start to finish! Elaine has an incredible eye for detail and with the help of her wonderful Mammy {and Dad and Brother and Ken and loads others} they transformed the Radisson Blu, into a magical woodland setting. Elaines Mammy made all the favors {and so much more}  which were scrumptious chocolates with popping candy, and who could resist them when the sign said “Eat Me” Ken I believe spent hours chopping and trimming wood for the table numbers and settings. The amount of detail was out of this world. Sean and myself were like kids in a candy store “have you seen this?” “OOOh did you see that, that’s a clever idea!” I am still raving about the wedding stationary! I loved how the RSVP asked you for your song request! This was also the second wedding where we have gone home. Like literally gone back to the couples home to take a few photos. I do love this so much, its so much more personal. I often ask couples if there is something unique to them or their wedding. I believe one of the answers I got back from the lads was that they both have blonde hair? I decided I’d let them have that as the other answer was Elaine designed their home. How totally AWESOME!! It got me thinking though, that just as every couple and wedding is unique so too are their homes. I hope this new trend continues and we get to see another side of our couples and take their wedding photographs in the front garden!

This was also our first wedding working with the adorable Reuben from Show and Tell films. Hopefully we didn’t scare him off!!! Reuben was a breeze on the day I thought we made a great little team. Check out his wee video at the end of the page! Though I do wonder, Reuben how much can you eat in one day??? hehehe Check out Reubens picture below!

Which means this post of our trip to Doolin with was shot and edited entirely by me. Well except when Sean took the camera off me to get a snap of Moi. I plan to be excellent at this new craft, but alas its not magic Sean is teaching me! When they got in contact with us they were keen to impress that they were a bit different. They loved an urban setting and that there would be no beaches or forests. It would be walking down a busy street holding hands and eating ice cream. It was to be a really personal wedding with family and close friends. A friend of Sarah’s was to sing to sing to the couple for their first dance and other friends were spending hours making up the place names out of smarties, in wait for it….binary code. This couple had so many great and quirky ideas for their wedding. We were swept up in the enthusiasm and energy of this couple. Now that I am thinking about it I don’t think we actually saw much of Nick on that Skype chat, never the less it was a very entertaining half an hour on the Skype machine. I was seriously thrilled that these two were to get married in the infamous “G Hotel” Galway. I would like to say the excitement was down to the fact that I have an keen interest in Philip Tracey and hats …… but that would be a lie! Really it was more the excitement of finally getting to try one of their famous cocktails {high five to head bridesmaid Niamh who made this happen…. I love you! and yes it was awesome.}

For any one that has not been to this hotel, get there as soon as you can. Its great fun. I felt like Alice in Wonderland until I got my bearings. Random fact, the ladies loos down stairs are COOL! I wanted to take the camera off Sean and take one or two pictures of the mirror and black and white tiles which are the only items to be highlighted in the pitch black darkness. When I came running out, Sean just looked at me and said “Kate, do I really need to tell you how weird that sounded? Not to mention we could get thrown out?” and continued to give me the look until I took my hand off the camera. So guys you are just going to have to take my word for it and ladies check it out!!!!

Sarah and Nicks wedding was so much fun. Strolling down shop street with out actually going shopping for me was a new experience as I would say it was for Sarah walking down the street in her  wedding dress. I don’t know if it was just because it was Galway, but everyone was so lovely to the wedding party. People wishing Sarah and Nick Congratulations and Good luck. As in actually saying it and shaking hands rather than screaming it across the road. At one point I think some guy walking past burst into song, while his buddy was happily photo bombing our group shots. Hilarious!

Thank you Sarah and Nick for a brilliant wedding, we loved every moment of it.

As well as being our first post of 2013, Maria and Ian will tie the knot this weekend so we are thrilled that they are our first wedding of 2013. Its going to be hilarious! Seriously, we had our last meeting a few days ago and all we did was laugh. At one point I couldn’t breath. I joked that we were going to have to try and act serious and as adults on Saturday which saw a moment of silence and more chuckles! That pretty much has been the relationship since we met all those months ago on a “fresh day” in Kilkee.

You will know by now { well you should know} that our Lovebird Sessions are all different and no two ever the same. They are the story of our couple and their passions. When reading through Maria and Ians homework {yes i send homework, meanie I know!} my mind exploded with ideas, I had a Violinist and a Superhero couple who loved to travel and shared the same love as Sean {though he will never admit it} Les Miserables and going to the movies. Thankfully I have Sean to hold me back, some ideas can just be crazy altogether.

We set off for Kilkee, a well known spot to most Limerick people. Unfortunately we were rained off on the first day so we agreed that we would come back another day. I remember long summers spent in Kilkee and it was always raining and windy. So on our second day when we saw clouds we were a little glum. We really wanted to have blue skies and fun for this lovely couple. Our wish was granted, it was also super windy! All those clouds were blown out of the way and made for some dramatic viewing. It was the first time in a long time I saw the beauty of this town. For all of you that would know this town and spend some time there as do our couple, I wonder will you too see it in a different light?
